Grateful Greens is a locally owned, family operated hydroponic farm. They grow the majority of thier crops in a greenhouse with a controlled environment, using water instead of soil.
We chose this method of farming as it allows us to produce twice the amount of crops in the same amount of space, as compared to soil farming. Hydroponic farming also allows us to grow year round in a way that is considered to be sustainable and agriculturally responsible.
We are a GAP certified farm with growing practices that allow us to avoid soil erosion and water contamination. We use no pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides on our crops. Instead, we utilize integrated pest management, along with products such as Safer Soap and others recommended by and considered organic by the KY dept. of agriculture via the Jefferson county extension office.
Hydroponic growing also allows us the ability to produce crops in a clean environment free of such highly publicized soil born dangers such as salmonella and e. coli.
Hydroponic farming isn’t a “better” way to farm, it is just another way to farm. We feel that knowing your farmer and their growing practices is far more important than any government defined labels. We are pleased to be able to offer our community another viable, responsible and nutritious option for food. Grateful Greens is proud to be able to feed more people healthy, tasty greens using less natural resources. Enjoy!
